The Site Squad Bootcamp LE is a focused, two-day pre-employment training program from The Reno Academy. In two full days, 16 hours, 70% of it hands-on, you’ll gain the practical skills and professional habits that get people hired in renovation, landscaping, and property maintenance across the Greater Toronto Area. No experience required. No prior education needed. Just bring your willingness to learn.

What You’ll Learn in Two Days

By graduation, you’ll be able to:

• Conduct yourself professionally on any job site or client property, arrive ready, follow site rules, and communicate respectfully.
• Identify and use common tools: hammers, screwdrivers (including the Canadian Robertson), pry bars, levels, and choose the right tape for the job.
• Lift safely and move materials through a job site, including two-person team lifts, to protect against the most common workplace injury.
• Demolish and clean up correctly: protect the site, remove materials safely, de-nail lumber, and bag and sort debris like a pro.
• Maintain decks and fences: operate a pressure washer safely on wood, replace a damaged plank, and apply sealer or stain for a lasting finish.
• Walk into your job interview with confidence: handshake, business-casual dress code, and live practice on the questions employers actually ask for general-labour roles.

Who the Site Squad Bootcamp LE Is For

This program is intentionally simple, clear, and supportive, designed so that anyone willing to learn can succeed. It’s a strong fit for:

• Adults on social assistance looking for a direct path to paid work
• Persons with intellectual or developmental disabilities (instruction is patient, one step at a time, with visual guides and small classes for individualized support)
• Youth and people new to the workforce
• Career changers and newcomers to Canada

For caseworkers, support workers, and referring agencies: we currently partner with The Career Foundation (supported by the Province of Ontario) and welcome additional referral partners. The bootcamp is built for inclusive, accessible delivery, with assessment that’s continuous and supportive rather than a single high-pressure test. Get in touch to discuss placing participants.

How the Bootcamp Works

Step 1, Enrol and Prepare. Sign up for the next 2-day cohort. You’ll receive everything you need and an overview of safety and professionalism standards.

Step 2, Hands-On Training. Spend two days doing the work, tools, lifting, demolition, and outdoor deck and fence maintenance, guided by experienced coaches in a small group.

Step 3, Certification and Career Support. Pass the practical assessment and short quiz to graduate with your certificate, ready to step into seasonal trades employment.

The Two-Day Curriculum at a Glance

Day 1, Foundation, Tools, Lifting & Interview Skills
Job-site conduct and professional standards, hand-tool and tape identification, reading a measuring tape, safe lifting and site navigation, and a live interview-skills practice session, handshake drill and mock Q&A.

Day 2, Demolition & Outdoor Skills
Safe demolition and site protection, de-nailing and proper bagging, end-of-day cleanup standards, then power washing, plank replacement, and sealing/painting a real deck or fence, finishing with review, quiz, and graduation.

Interview Skills: Get Hired, Not Just Trained

You can master every tool in this program and still walk out of an interview without an offer. That’s why Day 1 ends with a dedicated 45-minute interview-skills module: because the technical bar for general labour is low, and what employers are really asking is “is this person reliable and easy to work with?” We help you show them the answer is yes.

You’ll practise:

• Before the interview: when to arrive (10–15 minutes early), what to do if you’re running late, and a clear “business casual” standard for general-labour interviews (not work clothes, not a suit).
• The handshake drill: every participant practises the handshake live, with one-on-one feedback. Eye contact, web-to-web grip, two-to-three pumps, clean release.
• Mock Q&A: guided practice on the eight questions interviewers actually ask, with coaching on how to answer in your own voice.
• Accessibility-aware delivery: a confident nod with eye contact is accepted in place of a handshake for participants with sensory or social-anxiety needs; mock Q&A can be done in writing first.

For many of our participants, this is their first real job interview. By the end of Day 1, it isn’t anymore.

Skills GTA Employers and Homeowners Pay For

Power washing, deck and fence maintenance, and painting are seasonal services in high demand across the GTA, jobs homeowners commonly pay $150–$600 for. Demolition cleanup and safe bagging are needed on nearly every renovation site. And tool knowledge plus professional conduct are exactly the two things employers say new hires most often lack. Master them here, and you’re hireable from day one of the spring season.

Safety First, Every Session

Safety is the first thing we cover each morning and the last thing we check each afternoon. You’ll learn proper PPE for every task, safe lifting technique, and our non-negotiable “clean-head” rule for working around power tools, habits that protect you, your co-workers, and the homes you work in.

Your Certificate

Graduates earn the “Site Squad Bootcamp LE Graduate, Reno Academy” certificate (course code RENO-SSB-LE-100), awarded after passing both a continuous practical assessment and a 15-question written quiz (verbal administration available for anyone who needs it; pass mark 11/15). It tells employers that the holder can show up professionally, identify and use common tools, lift safely, clean up a demolition, maintain a deck or fence, and, thanks to the interview-skills module, present themselves well in the hiring conversation.

After You Graduate

Spring and fall are peak seasons for outdoor maintenance across the GTA, that’s when local renovation, landscaping, and property-maintenance employers are hiring hardest. With your certificate in hand, you’ll be ready to:

• Apply for paid work on Indeed.ca, Kijiji, and local Facebook groups, search “landscaping,” “property maintenance,” “renovation helper,” or “deck cleaning.”
• Walk into local companies with your certificate, small renovation and landscaping crews hire this way every season.
• Tap into Reno Academy connections: we work with employer partners interested in graduates of this program; just ask.

You leave with the skills, the certificate, and, thanks to the interview-skills module, the confidence to walk into the room and land the job.
